Church Flowers

THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST MARY, WEXHAM

POLICY REGARDING FLOWERS IN CHURCH FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS

St Mary’s Church is very ancient and parts of the building are fragile so we ask people to show respect for it and treat it with care at all times.

Flowers may be placed on window ledges, including the East window ledge behind the altar, on the choir frontals (for which appropriate containers are available), on pew ends (no nails or pins etc.) and in freestanding displays.

In order to reduce the likelihood of damage to the fabric of the building it is not permitted to:-

  1. attach flowers or other forms of decoration to woodwork (including pews, doors, timbers in both the church and the porch) using pins, nails etc.
  2. fix anything to walls or stonework. Both are fragile and can easily be damaged.

For security reasons the church is kept locked at all times but access to the building can be organised via the Flower Arranging coordinator: Jane Boot (Tel. 01753 520296 email: janeboot6@gmail.com)

Other than during Lent (the 6 weeks leading up to Easter) and Advent (the 4 weeks before Christmas), flowers are provided by the church for the East window ledge (behind the altar) and these are available for use at weddings.  Jane Boot (details above) can arrange for additional flowers to be made available subject to discussion and payment, but we do ask that you make contact with her not less than one month before the wedding is due to take place. In the absence of such contact, only normal church flowers will be provided (with nothing during Advent and Lent).
